Slovakia in talks on vaccine-lending mechanism

Slovakia is holding talks with other EU-member states on the mechanism for lending vaccines against COVID-19, Prime Minister Igor Matovic has posted on a social network. This should help Slovakia to bridge a period with very low vaccine supplies. "I spent last week partly in communication with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen regarding vaccines. Based on this, the Commission launched the so-called SOS vaccine-lending mechanism in order to bridge the period with very low supplies," said Matovic. The Prime Minister claims he has received an offer from German Chancellor Angela Merkel for transporting patients to Germany. Matovic took part in a video-summit of EU leaders on Thursday. The summit was to deal with developments in the pandemic and the vaccine, with the aim of making its supplies in the second quarter of this year run smoothly.
