Two MPs step down from Parliamentary posts after violating curfew

On Wednesday, Slovak Deputy Speaker of Parliament Juraj Šeliga and Head of the Parliamentary Social Affairs Committee Jana Žitnanská (both of the For the People party) resigned from their posts. They did so in reaction to the reports from the same day that on April 29 they were seen sitting in a cafe together with Bratislava Region Governor Juraj Droba, past the 9 P.M. curfew despite the pandemic restrictions. Šeliga and Žitnanská apologised to the public for leading by bad example, claiming that they discussed work matters at the meeting. As for Droba, the Bratislava governor stated that he is not going to resign over the matter. Claiming that he is sorry for what happened, Droba remarked it was not a serious enough failure to make him step down.

"I think that Juraj Šeliga has a great political potential ahead of him and if he wants to fulfil it, his resignation was the only way to ensure his future success in politics," said Speaker of Parliament Boris Kollár, who in the past refused to step down after suspicions that he had plagiarised half of his Diploma thesis.
