A 47-year-old woman died of thrombosis after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine with subsequent genetic tests showing she had a predisposition for blood clotting, thus establishing a probable direct link between vaccination and the thrombosis, Magdaléna Jurkemíková, the spokesperson for the Slovak State Institute for Drugs Control said on Friday. Blood clotting is one of the side effects of the AstraZeneca vaccine although deemed to be very rare. This is the first confirmed death linked to this vaccine in Slovakia. Since the beginning of the year two older patients have died after being vaccinated with the jabs from Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna.
Health Minister Vladimir Lengvarský said on Friday that a group of experts would meet on Monday to discuss the case comprehensively. "It will propose further measures as well as possible changes and adjustments to the vaccination strategy," he added.
