Travel agencies should be provided with assistance via refundable financial assistance to return advance payments to clients for whom no substitute trips have been made, according to a bill on certain extraordinary measures in the financial area in connection with COVID-19 prepared by the Finance Ministry and approved by the Government on Wednesday. The ministry also suggests that Parliament discuss the draft in a fast-tracked legislative procedure. However, travel agencies are obliged to agree with the client on an alternative trip before August 31 this year. If such an agreement is not reached within the set deadline, travel agencies are obliged to return the full deposit to the clients within the next 14 days. According to the Finance Ministry, the total volume of such advances is approximately €60 million. As this is refundable aid from state financial assets, the measure will not have an impact on the general government budget.
