Parliamentary Chair Boris Kollar (We Are Family) on Friday morning left for Poland, where he will take part in a session of the Visegrad Four (V4 - Slovakia, Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary) House chairs. Regional and global challenges and threats, along with the future of Europe and the role of national parliaments will be high on the agenda of their talks. Also in Poland, Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger (OLaNO) unveiled on Thursday to his Polish counterpart Mateusz Morawiecki in Warsaw an agreement that grants benefits to Slovak nationals during their travels concluded with Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Croatia. Slovakia offers these benefits on a reciprocal basis and would like Poland to join this agreement.
Under the deal, vaccinated Slovak holidaymakers will be able to travel to destinations in these countries without COVID-19 tests and the obligation to go into quarantine, if they were vaccinated against COVID-19 more than 22 days ago.
Morawiecki claimed at a press conference that many countries have already recognized each other's vaccination certificates. As for the Russian Sputnik V, however, he underlined that Poland recognizes only vaccines approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
Heger underlined that Poland is a significant neighbour and the third most important trade partner for Slovakia. "We're cooperating in both economic and political spheres, but are linked also by mutual closeness in language and culture, which also helps boost tourism," he said, pointing out that more than 100,000 Poles had visited Slovakia in 2020.
During his Thursday visit, Heger also laid a wreath at the memorial dedicated to the Slovak Platoon 535 that fought in the Warsaw Uprising of 1944 against the Nazis and on the grave of the unknown soldier. He also paid a visit to the Slovak Institute in Warsaw.
The Slovak delegation also included Deputy Foreign Minister Martin Klus and Deputy Economy Minister Jan Oravec.
