New Act should include new diaspora of Slovak ex-pats

The Office for Slovak ex-pats living abroad has informed that it allocated through its subsidy program over €1.9 mil to 654 projects from 29 countries with the largest sum supporting activities related to culture. The 2020 Report on state policy related to Slovaks living abroad discusses the Certificate which makes the administration easier for them as well as the access to the Slovak labour market. The material also brings a proposal for the 2022 ex-pats state policy. Its submitters point out that it is important also to focus on addressing the new diaspora of Slovaks abroad consisting of ex-pats who left the country after 1989. "For the year 2022, it will be crucial to prepare a new Act on Slovaks living abroad," underlines the Office. It has allocated over €3.5 mil in support of ex-pat communities with the same sum planned for the next year. It is estimated that up to 600 000 members of the Slovak minority and 1.25 mil Slovaks from traditional communities and the new diaspora are living abroad.
