EC Report praises Slovakia for fight against corruption and judicial reform

The European Commission has praised Slovakia for its effort to intensify the fight against corruption and secure greater media transparency in its 2021 Rule of Law Report. The Commission also welcomed the founding of the Office for Protection of Whistleblowers, set to become functional as of September 1, 2021. However, in the report's view Slovakia has made only small progress in the prevention of corruption, and would benefit from improved legislation on lobbying, conflict of interest, public procurement and more detailed property declarations of top state representatives.

Slovakia ranked 49th out of 100 monitored countries in the 2020 corruption perception index, 17th in the EU and 60th globally.
