Motivational €500 vouchers to encourage seniors to have themselves vaccinated will be processed by Parliament via a fast-track legislative procedure, the House decided on Friday. The National Council may, at the request of the Government, resolve to consider a bill under the fast-track legislative procedure under extraordinary circumstances, when fundamental human rights and freedoms, or the national security is in jeopardy or when there is a threat that the state could suffer considerable economic damage. The Finance Ministry, which sponsored the motion, expects the measure to cost the state coffers about €500 million. Even though there are 1.2 million citizens in the target age category of 60+, the ministry does not expect a 100-percent vaccination rate among them.
