In an effort to ensure food security for Slovakia, state representatives have proposed that the export of certain types of agricultural crops and selected foodstuffs be approved by the Ministry of Agriculture. Farmers and food producers have stated that they consider the proposal absurd. In other economic news, Slovak politicians have been pushing for fuel prices to be checked by the Antimonopoly Office. This in response to a continuous rise in petrol station prices, despite the fact that Slovakia’s oil refinery buys its raw material – Russian oil – at record discounts. The price of diesel fuel at the beginning of May reached a record high.
