Share of Slovak food in shops slightly up

The share of Slovak food in shops has reached a level of 42.3%, representing a year-on-year (y-o-y) rise of 0.9%, according to a survey of Slovak products in shops carried out by the Slovak Food Chamber (PKS).

The share of Slovak food in shops has fallen continually, reaching 37.2% in 2017. A gradual increase began in 2018, but the share of Slovak products has remained relatively low, and is still lower than it was in 2014. The largest share of Slovak food is traditionally found in the chain COOP Jednota with 55.2%, followed by Fresh with 50.4% and CBA with 49.5%. The lowest share of Slovak products is found in the Lidl chain with 32.6%, but even Lidl has improved its share by 5 percentage points compared to last year.

The highest shares of Slovak products in the shops are found in the cases of milk (73%), water and mineral water (64%), wine, beer and dairy products (52%). The lowest share of Slovak products occurs in the case of cooking oil with only 12%. The PKS has carried out its survey of Slovak food products in the shops since 2011.
