Queen Elizabeth II photo exhibition opens in Bratislava

Exhibition of photos of Queen Elizabeth II was opened on Tuesday in Bratislava at Hviezdoslavov Square. The British Embassy is commemorating its platinum jubilee in Slovakia, signifying 70 years since Her Majesty's accession to the throne. The exhibition presents archival photos from the state visit of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip to Slovakia in 2008, when they visited Bratislava and the High Tatras. Some of them are accessible to the public for the first time. The photos document various parts of the royal couple's program and provide a look back at one of the most significant visits in the history of independent Slovakia. British Ambassador to Slovakia Nigel Baker further explained that the exhibited photos are the work of three talented photographers - Jana Amarandei, Andrej Bán and Petr Haas. The photo series includes the official platinum jubilee portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, taken by Scottish photographer Ranald Mackechnie at Windsor Castle. The exhibition in Bratislava's Hviezdoslav Square will last until August 21.
