World Tourism Day celebrations in Slovakia

World Tourism Day has been held on 27 September each year since 1980. The date marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Statutes of the World Tourism Organization in 1970, paving the way for the establishment of World Tourism Organization itself five years later. Celebrations are also taking place all over Slovakia. The Gemersko-Malohontské Museum in Rimavská Sobota has prepared a presentation which compares travel for culture and history in the 1980s with such travel nowadays. The Regional Tourism Organisation of Gemer is presenting current tourist attractions in the region. The programme also includes carriage rides, during which museum lecturers in period costumes present to the public the history of the town and interesting facts related to individual historical buildings. In Horehronie and in the town of Brezno, a programme for children has been prepared at the local museum. They will get to know different genres of music, continuing with a musical and cultural programme dedicated to the wind chime. The whole atmosphere was completed by a performance of the folklore group Kýčera from Čierny Balog.
