Business Alliance calls on parliament to say no to bill banning Sunday sales

After more than a year, a proposal on banning Sunday sales has returned to Parliament. The Slovak Business Alliance has called on MPs not to support a bill banning Sunday sales, claiming that the majority of businesses are against the idea of restricting opening hours. In September 2022, the alliance carried out a survey among its members, according to which almost 70 percent of businesses opposed the bill, stating that interest in weekend shifts is high. In this vein, the employers pointed to the fact that the bill, if adopted, could actually decrease employees' salaries, which could lead to an increase in poverty. Meanwhile, only 20 percent of the businesses stated that they could envision closing their shops on Sundays, noting that weekend sales are restricted in other countries.
