Inflation hits new high

Monthly inflation in Slovakia amounted to 1.1 percent in February 2023, while consumer prices went up by 15.4 percent year-on-year (y-o-y), the Statistics Office reported on Wednesday. Rising food prices had the biggest impact on inflation in February, going up by 1.7 percent from January. In particular, the prices of bread and cereals went up by 2 percent, while those of vegetables grew by 9.9 percent and those of sugar and confectionery by 2.4 percent. The second most significant contributor to high inflation was a 0.5-percent increase in housing and energy prices. Prices for water supplies increased by 1.3 percent, those for heating supplies grew by 0.7 percent, and the cost of maintenance and household repairs rose by 2.3 percent.
