Christian parties fail to reach agreement on cooperation

Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) and Christian Union (KÚ) failed to reach an agreement on cooperation for September’s general election. The Union, chaired by MP Anna Záborská, declared they were saddened by the decision of the KDH to put narrow partisanship interests above the joining of Christian forces. KDH chair said that the KÚ had raised unfeasible demands, demanding 15 slots on the slate.

"Those who wish to join forces don't give ultimatums and don't raise unfeasible demands. If you want to merge with someone prior to an election, first and foremost you need to find overlaps in the programs and that has always been the alfa and omega of coalition-forming for KDH," stated Majersky, who added that personnel issues are the last to be tackled.

The union states they approached the talks responsibly, communicated directly and openly, made concessions on practically everything. “We didn't receive a single serious answer from KDH over the period of six weeks, not even a single deal proposal," claims KÚ.
