The number of unemployed people has fallen significantly in the first quarter of 2024. Seven regions in the Slovak Republic recorded a year-on-year decrease in the unemployed, the only exception being the Bratislava Region. The unemployment rate in Slovakia, expressed as the ratio of the number of unemployed to economically active persons, reached 5.6 percent. The number of people without work and the unemployment rate have reached a historical minimum since 1994. According to the Slovak Statistics Office, the unemployment rate is also the lowest, while in the almost 30-year history such a low number was recorded only twice in 2019 and 2023.
