The government has declared in a draft resolution that only municipalities and the state are allowed to own shares in Slovakia’s water companies. The resolution was made in response to a Supreme Audit Office (SAO) inspection of water companies which revealed some attempts at privatization. "Today, shares are also owned directly by water companies. If you change the shareholder ratios at the meetings of these companies, then this meets the theoretical requirements related to hidden privatization," explained chairman of the SAO Ľubomír Andrassy. Representatives of the Association of Water Companies will comment on the matter today.
