Survey: Majority of Slovaks think social networks influence democracy in country

The majority of Slovaks think that social media influence the development of democracy in the country, an online survey from early July has shown. The prevailing opinion was that the media influence democracy in a negative manner. At the same time, the respondents also perceived a negative influence from social networks on other areas related to domestic situations and relations.

As many as 70 percent of the respondents opined that social networks influence the development of democracy in Slovakia. Only 16 percent thought the opposite, while 13 percent didn't comment on the matter.

A negative impact from social networks on democracy was perceived primarily by supporters of the current opposition. Conversely, some supporters of the incumbent coalition perceived a positive influence from social networks on democracy.
