Slovak Supreme Court judge sanctioned with salary reduction after public altercation

The Disciplinary Panel of the Supreme Administrative Court (NSS) of the Slovak Republic has imposed a three-month, 50 percent salary reduction on Judge Juraj Kliment following a physical altercation with another judge in public. The Supreme Court’s Judicial Council (NS) had requested a disciplinary measure, either a transfer to a lower court or a 50 percent salary reduction for one year. Kliment, however, sought exemption from the charges, arguing that his actions did not constitute a disciplinary offense and that the incident did not occur as described in the disciplinary proposal. The joint motion to initiate disciplinary proceedings was submitted by the Judicial Council of the Supreme Court and its President, Ján Šikut, referring to the incident that took place in a parking lot outside the Supreme Court Office on Panónská Street in Bratislava on October 17, 2023.
