Marek Eštok, State Secretary of the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs, met with Ian Biggs, Australia’s Ambassador to Slovakia, to discuss enhancing political dialogue and expanding economic, trade, and investment partnerships. A key step in this collaboration is the planned reopening of Slovakia's embassy in Canberra, approved by the Slovak government this year. Eštok thanked Australia for its support and highlighted untapped opportunities in education and defense industries. The meeting also focused on joint activities in international organizations, including the UN, and support for candidacies to the UN Security Council. They discussed the EU-Australia free trade negotiations, with Slovakia backing the talks that began in 2018 but are hindered by agricultural market access issues. Finally, the discussion addressed global issues, including the Indo-Pacific region and the Ukraine conflict, where Slovak border regions could serve as logistical hubs for Australia in Ukraine’s future reconstruction.
