Prime Minister Robert Fico announced that the Parliament will be able to approve the state budget for 2025 on Tuesday, December 3, even without opposition votes. Following a coalition council meeting, Fico claimed that the parliament will be quorum-ready and able to pass the budget.
According to Fico the European Commission has positively assessed Slovakia's fiscal consolidation and the proposed budget, considering the country one of the most reliable in terms of its realistic and achievable fiscal plans. The Prime Minister also dismissed the narrative that the parliament is dysfunctional, noting that the government has successfully passed 40 laws. President Peter Pellegrini regarding Tuesday's government meeting stated that it will be crucial in deciding whether the governing coalition will retain its fragile majority this year. One of the points was the dismissal of Matúš Šutaj Eštok as Interior Minister. However MPs were not able to reach quorum even on the second attempt.
