If doctors’ mass resignation notices become a reality and health care becomes less available, the situation will have a serious impact on the Slovak economy, the Association of Employers’ Unions (AZZZ) warned on Thursday, fearing an increase in the sickness rate and worker shortages as well as increased costs for employers.
AZZZ expressed its concerns in an open letter to the Medical Trade Union Association (LOZ), stressing that it respects the right of employees, including health-care workers, to express their claims and concerns and that it recognises the need to improve conditions in Slovak hospitals, but it also warned of the possible consequences of mass resignations.
“In such a case, many employees wouldn’t receive health care, which may lead to a higher sickness rate or a worsening of pre-existing health problems. Such a situation could lead to a slowdown in the whole economy,” stressed AZZZ general secretary Oto Nevicky.
