No Fireworks in Major Slovak Cities for New Year’s Eve

The eight largest Slovak cities, which are also county seats, will offer a variety of cultural programs on New Year’s Eve. For several years, most of these cities have moved away from hosting fireworks displays, citing financial and environmental concerns. As a result, they have taken the lead over legislation that requires a permit for fireworks. This year, only Banská Bystrica in central Slovakia will feature fireworks, presented as a pyromusical show.

On Wednesday, January 1, at 14:00, the artillerymen of the 5th Artillery Regiment will fire 21 ceremonial rounds along the Danube River embankment in Bratislava to honor the national holiday, the Day of the Establishment of the Slovak Republic. If weather conditions permit, the program will also include a performance by the military music ensemble of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic.
