The Slovak Medical Chamber has declared that recent legislative changes to e-prescribing represent a step backward in the digitalization of healthcare. As of January, an amendment to the National Health Information System Act has taken effect, removing the option to issue e-prescriptions for certain medicines, particularly those fully paid for by patients. The Health Ministry explained that the change was necessary because of the technical and legislative requirements needed to comply with European Union laws on personal data protection in connection with the e-prescription service. The ministry assured the public that it is working to address the situation and minimize its impact as quickly as possible.
