Slovak nutritionists: Being vegan has its benefits, but…

There are surely many arguments about why one should or shouldn't become a vegan. From an ethical and ecological point of view, veganism seems to be a reasonable alternative. From a health point of view, however, many nutritionists remain skeptical.

Doctor, scientist and nutrition specialist Adela Penesová will give us her opinion on the vegan diet, specifying its risks as well as health benefits.

An average adult needs a minimum of 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day which might be one of the reasons why scientist Adela Penesová recommends a semi-vegetarian diet based on the Mediteranean diet that includes small portions of poultry and fish two times a week.

And what does doctor, scientist and nutrition consultant Milan Sedliak think on the same issue?

Pursuing a vegan diet definitely has many pros but quite a lot of cons, too. On the one hand, it might prevent you from getting for example cardio-vascular diseases, on the other hand, however, you might lack some nutrients. Nevertheless, if you decide to stop eating animal based products, it would be probably wise to consult it with a good nutrition specialist.

Anyway, good luck and stay healthy!
