Long-term drought in Slovakia: What are its causes and consequences?

In the last few weeks, Slovakia has dealt with persistent drought. It has not been raining for more than a month in most parts of Slovakia, and it does not seem that it will rain any time soon.

What is the cause of this extreme drought? How serious is it? And what could be done to mitigate its impact in the future? We spoke to climatologist from Slovak hydrometeorological institute Jozef Pecho.
