Even though nature protection is slowly becoming one of the world's top priorities, it seems that the real value of nature remains an abstract concept to many people. Why protect it? Why invest in green energy? What benefits would it bring? Although these questions might seem trivial, the answer to them is, in fact, rather complex.

According to the global initiative Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity, the term refers to the direct and indirect contributions of ecosystems to human wellbeing. That means anything referred to as an ecosystem service supports, directly or indirectly, our survival and quality of life.
