The Slovak capital Bratislava has become one of the 36 cities around the world, which have a memorial site dedicated to Václav Havel, the first democratic Czechoslovak president in the post-1989. In Bratislava, Havel will be remembered thanks to a bench which was unveiled in a park on Vajanského nábrežie on Sunday (July 5), on the 30th anniversary of his election as the first post-revolutionary and non-communist president of Czechoslovakia. The commemoration site is made up of a tree growing through a round table with two chairs. It should symbolize an open dialogue.

Heads up to all the train lovers. A special tourist train from Košice to the Slovak Paradise began its summer schedule. "Ice Express" to Paradise, or Slovenský Raj National Park, if you will, is for all those interested in uncovering the corners of the south-eastern part Slovakia. The train is dispatched from the Košice main train station every Saturday and besides sightseeing you get to experience fun accompanying activities.

On July 11, it will be Nordic walking for beginners and one week later, on July 18, the regional tourism organization in Košice has prepared trail running for amateur runners. On the last Saturday in July you can join a group hike from Dedinky to Stratená.

Old furniture, traditional fabrics, historic paintings as well as practical household utensils that were used some decades ago. All this has been collected by Štefan Višňovský, a 70-year-old local history enthusiast from the village of Zámutov near Vranov nad Topľou in eastern Slovakia. Together with his wife, they set up a so called house of traditions. They collected most of the items through their 40 years of active participation in the local folk group Zamutovčan.

Millions of spectators around the world, including many Slovaks, dedicate the hot month of July to the most famous cycling race - Tour de France. Well, they dedicate it mostly to their sofas and television sets, where hours of beautiful French countryside dominates the coverage. The name of the Slovak cyclist Peter Sagan usually becomes one of the most mentioned names in the news as well as at the family dinner tables. Well, not this July. Nonetheless, you can experience a little bit of Le Tour at the French Institute in Bratislava, where an exhibition by Tomáš Školník, a Slovak photographer and a big Peter Sagan fan is taking place. The exhibition titled from Paris - Roubaix to the Tour de France will be open to the general public until 24 July 2020 in the Gallery of the French Institute, on Sedlárská Street no. 7 in Bratislava.
