On Sunday, the Slovak national men's ice-hockey team advanced from qualification Group D to the 2022 Winter Olympics main tournament, sweeping the group with three wins over Austria, Poland and Belarus.
In the final and decisive match against Belarus, Slovakia needed a draw in order to advance, however, they managed to beat their opponents 2:1.
Before that, Slovaks defeated Austria 2:1 on Thursday and Poland 5:1 on Friday. Meanwhile, Denmark and Latvia are the other two teams that managed to qualify from their respective qualification groups for the main event. They will join Canada, the USA, Russia, Sweden, Finland, the Czech Republic, Germany, Switzerland and the host - China.
At the Winter Olympic Games in February 2022, Slovakia will start the tournament in Group C together with Sweden, Finland and Latvia.
