Groups set for U21 Euro Championship to be held in Slovakia

The Slovak national football team under 21 will play in Group A against Spain, Italy and Romania at next year's home European Championship. Tuesday's draw in Bratislava's Reduta decided this. The Slovaks will play the opening match of the tournament on June 11 in Bratislava against Spain. The complete match schedule, including times, will be published by UEFA on the day of the draw.

As the organizer of the championship, Slovakia was assured of a place in the basic group A in Bratislava and Trnava. For the purposes of creating the schedule of the basic group matches, coach Jaroslav Kentoš's team took position A1 and will face the opening match of the tournament at Tehelné pol against the Spaniards.

The sixteen participants of the tournament were ranked according to the coefficient they achieved based on the results in the past three years. The draw procedure was completed by former Slovak representative and tournament ambassador Vratislav Greško together with current national team member Juraj Kucko.

The European Under-21 Championship with 16 participants will be held for the third time, but Slovakia will be the first country in history to host such a major tournament on its own. Games  will be played in a total of eight cities - Bratislava, Trnava, Dunajská Streda, Nitra, Trenčín, Žilina, Košice and Prešov.
