Skripal case puts Slovak MP in criminal prosecution

Jaroslav N. activities are of a more complex nature and deal with security of the Slovak Republic. Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini said that after meeting several members of Security Council. As he added, the information about the reason of his indictment which were provided by media are just a „selected part" of his activities.

Jaroslav N. allegedly violated confidentiality by asking an individual from "security environment" a question about the case of former Russian military intelligence officer Sergei Skripal who was the target of a poison attack in 2018 in UK. The lawmaker perceives his indictment as absurd and unsubstantiated. "It's being held against me that, because of my past tenure at the Defence Ministry, I had to have known such an information was classified," claimed the MP.

The lawmaker blames Military Intelligence head Balciar as being behind the indictment. Jaroslav N. claimed that his prosecution over a putative breach of confidentiality was initiated by Military Intelligence head Jan Balciar in order to exact vengeance for a recent press conference, where Jaroslav N. drew attention to Balciar's dubious gains in wealth.

The Military Intelligence is obligated by the law to carry out specific tasks to ensure security and defence of the Slovak Republic, Defence Ministry spokesperson Danka Capakova stated on Thursday. As she said Military Intelligence complied with the law by forwarding the information, acquired in full compliance with relevant provisions of the legislation while carrying out its tasks, on September 11, 2019, to law enforcement bodies.
