Slovakia fails in most goals in its Europe 2020 strategy

Slovakia will fulfil only six or seven goals out of the twenty which it declared in the Europe 2020 strategy, indicates an analysis by the VÚB Bank. Moreover, the government has given up on some goals, such as the effectivity of added value tax collection, or the sustainability of public finances. "These are still on the list of reforms, however not anymore as goals for 2020," reads the analysis.

The development on the job market has been better than expected and the country should thus be able to meet its goal to keep the unemployment rate of the active population under 3%, as well as goals in the portion of people endangered by poverty and social exclusion. Apart from that, the country will probably only fulfil the goal of the portion of young people with a university degree (40% of people between 30 and 34) and a benevolently set plan for the emission of greenhouse gases - a growth by no more than 13% since 2005.

On the other hand no significant improvement in the field of business environment can be seen. The use of e-government is at the level of 59% however, the goal was 70%. Slovakia also lags behind in the export of high tech products with 10% instead of the planned 14%. The number of years a person lives in good health in Slovakia is at the level of 56 to 57 years, far from the intended 60 to 60.5 years.

Slovakia also lags behind its goals and more developed countries too in the effectiveness of added value tax collection. Moreover, the country failed to achieve the goal of a balanced budget. It was almost achieved in 2015 however, from that point on, the situation has been getting worse. The last field is the citation of scientists. They have improved between 2013 and 2015, but have been stagnating since, and are far from their goal - 70% of the EU average, concludes the analysis of the VÚB Bank.
