The coalition's Slovak National Party (SNS) has submitted to Parliament a bill aimed to bolster the protection of Slovak state symbols, including the introduction of an obligation to publicly display the state flag on all state-owned buildings, TASR learnt from SNS spokesperson Zuzana Skopcova on Saturday (August 24).
"Our flag must be present at every place where the state is present. It is the manifestation of respect towards our homeland and the people," declared SNS leader Andrej Danko.
SNS added that there has been a growing amount of cases recently when public institutions or state bodies supported specific ideologies by flying the flags that represent them. "This trend often concerns LGBTI community, which leads to the polarisation of society and indirectly discriminates against individuals with a different opinion. The proposed bill aims to restore opinion neutrality of the state institutions and make sure that state bodies serve all citizens equally, regardless of their opinion preferences," explained Skopcova.
