Slovak trade unions are against CETA

The Slovak Confederation of Trade Unions has joined the initiative against signing the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between the EU and Canada. The agreement, which is set to be discussed at an informal meeting of EU trade ministers in Bratislava on Friday, is mainly being reproached for its negative impact on the environment, agriculture, energy and labour laws. More than three million Europeans have already signed a petition against CETA and tens of thousands of people are protesting against it in the streets of European cities. Earlier this week, the Government's Proxy for the Slovak Presidency of the EU Council, Ivan Korčok, said that nothing stands in the way of signing the agreement. He also praised the atmosphere of the negotiations and called them transparent.
