Unsurprisingly, the Bratislava region performed the best among Slovakia's four EU regions in the European Commission's latest Regional Competitiveness Index (RCI), according to the TASR press agency. Measured according to GDP per capita in purchasing power standards (PPS), the region's score was 187, while the EU-28 average is set at 100. This earned the region third place among all 263 regions. The figures weren't anywhere near as good for the other Slovak regions; western, central and eastern Slovakia. They largely ranked alongside most regions of Croatia, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia and Poland along with those in the south of Italy, Portugal and Spain. The results of Slovakia's regions didn't undergo major changes when compared to the 2013 measurements.
