Poverty and Slovakia

12,7% of the inhabitants of the Slovak Republic were at risk of poverty in 2016. In the year-on-year comparison this represents a 0,4% increase. The threshold per capita is 348 EUR. The unemployed represent the group of citizens mostly affected by poverty. According to Ľudmila Ivančíková from the Statistical office of the Slovak Republic, 48% of the unemployed at the risk of poverty represent a 2,5% increase on a year-on-year basis. They come mainly from families with three and more dependent children and single parents with at least one child. The Prešov region is the most affected by the risk of poverty.
