The western Slovak city of Trnava has been awarded the title "European City of Trees 2017" by the European Arboricultural Council. The Arboricultural Council appreciated the long-standing efforts of the town's local government to expand green areas in the city. In the past, winners of the title included Krakow in Poland, Tallinn in Estonia, Frankfurt in Germany, Prague in the Czech Republic, and Turin in Italy.
