By the end of August this year, 2,390 persons had declared personal bankruptcy. It is an upsurge by 284 percent compared to the whole of 2016. The change was enabled by the amendment to the Act on Bankruptcy and Restructuring, which has been in force in Slovakia since March 2017. "This has greatly simplified filing for personal bankruptcies. We attribute this enormous growth just to this change," said Petra Šepánová, an analyst with Bisnode.
