Education minister: reform document needs revision

The education reform document 'Learning Slovakia' in its current form cannot be submitted to the Government for approval, as it lacks a budget and time framework, stated Education Minister Martina Lubyová in Parliament last week. According to her, it is a document that needs to be discussed among other ministries, as it concerns more than one resort. This document is a vision and inspiration that will trigger further processes," said the minister. "The reform needs specific goals, events, activities and a budget, but this document doesn't contain these elements, so it will have to be revised in a way so that it contains them," explained Lubyová. The minister also added that she would submit the document at a session of the parliamentary education committee that will determine the next steps. Opposition Freedom and Solidarity MP Branislav Gröhling argues that Lubyová knew that 'Learning Slovakia' was a visionary document and that the drawing up of action plans and timetables should have been the ministry's task from the beginning.
