Robert Fico invites Council of Europe Head to Slovakia

At his Wednesday visit to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico praised how this institution helped Slovakia after it became a member in 1993. Since Slovakia is set to mark the 25th anniversary of joining the Council of Europe next year, on this occasion Fico invited the Council's Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland to visit Slovakia. Jagland expressed an interest to visit the eastern Slovak village of Spišský Hrhov, which is known for its successful projects concerning the Roma issue. On Wednesday, Fico and Jagland also discussed issues that are currently being addressed by the Council of Europe. Fico praised the Council of Europe's attitude concerning relations with Russia and stressed that the secretary-general prefers political dialogue and a rapid resolution of the issue.
