Slovakia has a new item on the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. On Thursday, at the twelfth session of UNESCO's Intergovernmental Committee meeting at Jeju Island, South Korea, members voted to add multipart singing from the Horehron region to the list. An intensive throaty expression as well as the polyphony of Orthodox rites is characteristic for the singing style of this Central Slovak region.
