On Wednesday morning Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini announced to TASR that the government has delayed its decision on buying new fighter jets for the Slovak armed forces. Previously, a decision was supposed to have been made before the end of June on which type of fighter jets will succeed the country's ageing Russian MiG-29s. At present, the choice is between American F-16s and Swedish Gripens. The prime minister explained the delay by saying that the decision to purchase fighters is not so urgent that they have to be accepted next week. He admitted that it would probably happen after the summer government holidays.
