Slovak to run for president of European Commission

Maroš Šefčovič, who currently serves as Vice-President of the European Commission for Energy Union, will run for the post of President of the European Commission. He officially announced his decision on Monday in the European Parliament in Brussels after gaining the support of nine socialist parties from EU member states. In 2009, Šefčovič became the European Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Youth. One year later, he took the position of European Commissioner for Interinstitutional Relations and Administration. In 2012, he was also European Commissioner for Health and Consumer Policy for one month and he started at his current position in 2014.
