SMER might have its presidential candidate

The European Commission Vice-president for Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič has allegedly agreed to run for President for the largest governing SMER-SD party, wrote the Denník N daily, citing two unnamed representatives of the party on Sunday. However, no one has officially confirmed the candidacy. As the daily writes, some details are currently being negotiated and Šefčovič should announce his decision this week.

Smer-SD MP Erik Tomáš said that the party's chairman Robert Fico proposed that Šefčovič should run and that he was seriously considering it. MP and Opposition Ordinary people party leader Igor Matovič described Šefčovič as a good presidential candidate. "But if he runs with the support of a criminal organisation, he'll become unacceptable for us," Matovič said commenting the SMER-SD party as such.
