US car tariffs to impact Slovak economy

The introduction of US tariffs on cars will affect the Slovak automobile industry as well, Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini (Smer-SD) said on Thursday. On Thursday and Friday (March 22), Pellegrini is scheduled to attend a European Council session in Brussels, with premiers of all the Visegrad Four countries (V4: Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia) to meet with Euro-commissioner for Trade Cecilia Malmstrom on the sidelines prior to the session. Talks are to revolve around the potential introduction of US tariffs on automobiles. Slovakia's production portfolio includes luxury cars exported to the US market. Pellegrini claimed that Slovakia would feel the fallout of such a trade war, as the prices of such cars would increase dramatically with the tariffs.
