Worsening state of press-freedom in Slovakia

In the press freedom rankings, Slovakia currently occupies the 35th position. This stems from the annual report published by the international organization Reporters without Borders (RSF). The organization assessed the working conditions of journalists in 180 countries. Concerning Slovakia, the Reporters without Borders look back at the murder of investigative journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancée, as well as on the subsequent political crisis that led to the demise of the Prime Minister Robert Fico, who is known for his hesitant position towards the media. Slovakia has been falling in the press freedom rankings for the third consecutive year. In 2016, it was in 12th position.
