Slovak priorities to pursue in EU Agricultural Policy

Slovakia will demand direct payments from the EU's farm budget to be closer to the EU average and support for special plant and animal commodities in the EU 2021-27 Common Agricultural Policy, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Gabriela Matecna said on Thursday. Representatives of farmers, food producers and ministry organisations met in Nitra on Thursday to set priorities to be incorporated by Slovakia into its strategic plan. According to minister Matecna, the material is expected to be complete on January 1, 2020. Slovak Agricultural and Food Chamber (SPPK) chair Emil Macho added that a striking aspect of the future Common Agricultural Policy would be an emphasis placed on environment and climate change prevention. "We want to have a green country, that's our goal," added Macho.
