Prime Minister passes V4 Presidency on to Czech Premier

Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini symbolically passed on the year-long Visegrad Four Presidency (V4: Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia) to Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis in Brussels on Thursday. The V4 meeting took place ahead of the EU summit. The Czech Republic is slated to assume the V4 Presidency as of July 1. Despite the meeting between the Prime Ministers of the V4 group ahead of the EU summit, they did not agree on a single candidate for one of the top EU positions. "We will do our best to ensure Maros Sefcovic receives one of the top positions," said Slovak Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini, adding that the fight would be intensive and difficult. "Combining the political ambitions of EP fractions with ambitions of individual countries is highly demanding. We think Maros (Sefcovic) could have the perfect chance to be a high EU representative for foreign affairs," Pellegrini informed the media.
