On Thursday, the 97 year old ceramist Ignác Bizmayer died at his home in Modra, western Slovakia. He was renowned for creating majolica and figurative ceramic sculptures. Bizmayer depicted in precise detail people dressed in traditional folk costumes doing traditional crafts, musicians and saints. He was awarded several top state orders under the communist regime as well under the independent Slovakia.
