Prosecutors: We were illegally screened too

Not only journalists but also prosecutors were illegally screened, stated prosecutors on Monday at their press conference on developments in the investigation of the murder of journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kušnírová. Recently many journalists were called to police hearings, where they learnt that police and the secret service had illegally collected their and their families' personal information. As the etrend.sk website wrote, the former head of police Tibor Gašpar argued in the past that the screenings had been carried out in reaction to an investigation into a case, where an opposition MP's assistant had looked into the former Interior Minister's bank account.

At the press conference, the prosecutors also stated that there are tens of thousands of messages in controversial businessman Marián Kočner's mobile phone, who is charged with ordering Kuciak's murder. They also called for people who were in touch with Kočner to contact the police themselves, adding that not doing so could later be a disadvantage for them.
